The good ground rules

PARTICIPATION
RULES.

We have a few shared expectations that help everyone feel welcome, safe and able to enjoy their hangout sessions.

Show up kindly

  • Speak to others with kindness and respect. Bullying, harassment, discrimination, insults and inappropriate language are not okay.
  • Listen when someone else is speaking and leave space for others to contribute.
  • It’s fine to pass on one activity or take a short break. We ask everyone to be willing to join in over time, with camera and microphone generally on.

Keep the group private

  • Don’t share personal contact details, including surnames, addresses, phone numbers or social media handles, in the hangout.
  • Don’t send private messages or try to contact other participants privately through the programme. Adults and children do not exchange private messages through Homeschool Hangouts.
  • Don’t record, screenshot or share anything from a session without permission. Respect what other children choose to share in the group.

Make your Zoom space comfortable

  • Use a suitable name on Zoom and wear clothing appropriate for a group video call.
  • Choose a place with an appropriate background and avoid showing other people’s private information on camera.
  • Follow the adult moderator’s instructions so the group can run smoothly.

Parents and guardians

Please stay reachable by phone while your child is in a session. If your child can’t attend, let the organiser know when you can. Talk through these rules with your child before their first hangout.

If something goes wrong

We’ll usually start with a gentle reminder. If behaviour continues, we may give a clear warning and speak with the parent or guardian. Repeated or serious behaviour may lead to a child being removed from a session or the programme. We’ll address concerns promptly and with care for everyone involved.

The aim of the groups is simple: a place where everyone can talk, laugh and feel comfortable.
